The term "Zeitgeist" can be defined as: The intellectual, moral, and cultural climate of an era. The term "movement" implies motion or change. The Zeitgeist Movement is thus a social aim that urges change in the intellectual, moral and cultural climate of the time. Specifically, to values and practices that would better serve the well-being of the whole of humanity, regardless of race, religion, title or other forms of contrived social status.

The Zeitgeist Movement (TZM) advocates the direction of a global, Resource Based Economy (RBE) and is actively engaged in the education and mass awareness of what could be summarized as "The application of the Scientific Method to social concern."

Formed in November of 2010, the local Monterey Chapter is just 1 of 18 sub-chapters within the State of California. Globally, the Zeitgeist Movement has over 1,100 Chapters, in over 70 different countries. This is a pretty amazing feat for a movement formed only in late 2008, receiving very little mainstream media coverage. As a global gathering of likeminded individuals, we are growing and organizing rapidly.

1. Ok, so you've heard of us. If you are completely new to our ideas, please take a few minutes to watch these videos. ( 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 )These six short videos provide an overview of our basic understandings. Keep in mind however, that the information and ideas provided within are just the tip of the iceberg. In order to fully grasp the ideas presented, you'll need to understand the reasoning and scientific data that support our ideas. Fortunately, we have tons of materials for you to watch, listen to, or read. For your convenience, a media player is located directly below this section. Any of the films or videos within serve as excellent sources for information, and I recommend eventually watching them all as you have time. However if you only have time for one film, I recommend watching Zeitgeist: Moving Forward. In my opinion, it does the most thorough job of describing our current cultural zeitgeist, and how we would like to change it.

2. Assuming you agree with the general assessment of the problems we face and direction we would like to take, (You are still reading, right?) how do you get involved? It's simple. You can have a large impact on the people you know and within your community by these two simple steps.

  • Share the videos and information we have available with everyone you know. This can be done for either free, or very cheap. All of the movements materials are available online for free and can be easily shared via web links in email, twitter, facebook, etc. Also most of our materials can also be burned to DVD at very affordable prices. DVD Image files and free burning software can be found at the bottom of THIS PAGE. All you will have to provide is the DVD, which can now be bought for $.25 or less, and the time to actually burn the disc.
  • Come and join us on the streets during our local activism events (See the Calendar for the next one). By physically participating in our events, you signal to others that it is socially acceptable to engage with this new group of people with different ideas. THIS VIDEO explains the concept further. In relation to the above linked video, we are at a stage where just two people are dancing. We need you to be the third, fourth, and so on, person dancing with us. If we can get just a handful of new people to join, our local movement can reach a tipping point and we can work as one giant cohesive force to bring about the necessary change.
